Clubs

After many years residence in the college based clubs, a Hombu dojo for JKA Shotokan Ireland was established in the city centre in 2014. Training is open to all members of the organisation no matter which club they are affiliated to. Regular squad training sessions are held to help prepare for competitions such as the JKA Afro-Eurasian Championships and College Intervarsities. New members and any Shotokan practicising visitors will be always welcome.
The Honbudojo is managed and run by Sensei Fran Meggs, 6th Dan JKA.

Since it's inception in 1977, UCD Karate Club has played a central role in Irish Karate. The club grew steadily over the years and the graduates have taken the skills they've learned to the four corners of the earth. The club has enjoyed great success down through the year at Intervarsity level and several members have represented Ireland on the world stage. All the clubs activities are advertised on their facebook page, which is the best point of reference for all things UCD! The head instructor is Sensei Bill Hayden, 4th Dan JKA.

Long before the modern facilities of DCU were developed, serious Karate training had started. Many of the club's early members are still actively involved in both the club and the organisation.
