JKA SI Japan Visit - JKA Autumn Training Camp, Tokyo 2025
From 14-21 October 2025, 18 representatives from across the JKA SI karate clubs trained at the JKA Honbu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan, and participated in the Autumn Training Camp. Karateka from 3rd Kyu through to 6th Dan trained under the watchful eyes of some of the most senior karate instructors in the world. Classes were split up by grade, resulting in tailored instruction and an opportunity to train with others of similar grades from around the world.
In addition, some of the group took advantage of the opportunity to train in other dojos in Tokyo, Osaka and Okinawa. Classes at the Autumn Training Camp were delivered by Takeshi Oishi Sensei, 9th Dan, Chief Instructor of the JKA, and by many of the leading JKA instructors including Ogura, Izumiya, Hanzaki, Kobayashi, Hirayama, Kurihara, Shimizu, Miyashita, Igarashi, Ohsato, Hakizume and Koizumi. The gallery below gives a flavour of the experience, while the following comments, from across the group, give a personal account of this landmark JKA SI event.
Reflections on the Autumn Training Camp (from across the range of grades who attended):
"It gave an appreciation for all the expertise and support we get at home..."A highlight was Hirayama Sensei, such impressive skills with great explanations ...just great to attend a class with a woman of her calibre"
"It's always motivating to train with the honbu dojo instructors and be reminded of the levels of possibility that exist in your training, plus the training camp gives the opportunity to catch up with JKA karate-ka from around the world"
"Without a doubt, the opportunity to visit Tokyo and take part in the Autumn Training Camp was easily one of the most incredible experiences... (we were) taught by JKA Senseis who were nothing short of exceptional and it was a privilege to be able to train in the Honbu Dojo"
"We are fortunate to have the opportunity to train on occasion with senior JKA instructors when they travel to Europe. However, the Autumn Training Camp gave us an insight into Honbu Dojo life and to benefit from the insights and experiences of a breadth of senior instructors which I will never forget"
Away from the karate, our representatives took the opportunity to see some of the sights in Tokyo and further afield, as captured in the gallery below.
